John III , Polish king (b. 1629). Known as the Savior of Christendom and called the Lion of Lechistan by the muslims, who he defeated at the Battle of Vienna, which marked the historic end of the expansion of the Ottoman Empire into Europe. He died on June 17, 1696.

On September 12, 1683, the Battle of Vienna took place. The battle was fought by the Habsburg Monarchy, the Polish–Lithuanian Commonwealth & the Holy Roman Empire, under the command of Polish King John III against almost two times stronger forces of the Ottomans.
