Another massive compromise by 's Smart Compose – coupled with my stupidity for not double checking something – has just pushed me over the edge and I have finally switched it off.

This Gmail feature popped up today. Couldn't help but wonder whether these "smart" suggestions play a part in homogenising email drafting and language, more broadly. Algorithms making norms more normative so that drafting becomes less taxing on the brain.

This new feature is freakin' scary. It's pretty good about divining my intent though not necessarily my writing style. Are they going through my email or everyone's to figure that shit out? Hail, Mighty Robot Overlords!

Gmail Smart Compose feature is too good. AI based predictions/suggestions are pretty accurate. Start using it if you have not started using it already.

I received 3 emails last week w/ same exact phrasing. Definitely having conversations with a neural network. I blame Google smart compose. Humans, are you there?

At first I was troubled by Google's feature — coercing everyone to write the same as everyone else. But no! It's a cliché-avoidance feature! Whenever Google tries to finish my sentence for me, I force myself to think of a way to say it differently.

Unpopular opinion: Google is not another sign of the coming apocalypse & it's not turning your deathless email prose into robospeak. It's incredibly useful.

I like the new Smart Compose. It's like my email knows I cannot spell unfortunately without spell check flagging it. It's like it's giving off a defeatist sigh and saying "oh let me do it. We'll be here until Christmas at this rate."

is coming. I just hope the emails it crafts are a bit better than this... Who is Jacqueline and why doesn't she know my address if we're close enough for taco night at my place? I hope she makes the salsa fresh or I'm out to be honest.
