The government has called SI 445 "a small number of changes." They say this to justify their new law that undermines and waters down children's rights. But scrolling through the changes is truly dizzying...does this look like a "small number" to you?

Bowled over by wonderful messages of support. Thank you! 50+ orgs and many hundreds of care experienced people, social workers and others oppose this radical weakening of safeguards for children in care. Having to go to court because government wouldn't listen.

If you think that diluting children's safeguarding services is OK then stop reading now. If you care about children then this is a long but essential read, please use 'reasonable endeavours' to read 'as far as is reasonably practical'

Judicial review hearing 27 and 28 July. Three grounds - govt's failure to consult; Regulations contrary to objects & purpose of primary legislation; and SoS breached duty to promote child well-being. Please help us reach target - 6 days to go.

3 months after government forced through 'urgent' statutory changes in SI445 it issues revised non-statutory guidance on it. It is, I am sure, entirely coincidental that @article39 has forced judicial review of SI445 later this month

This gov't removed 65 safeguards introduced over time since the death of Denis O'Neil overnight without any formal consultation or opportunity for parliamentary oversight. This reduces the regulatory workload for providers & LA's by removing protection for children.

5. We are very concerned that DfE decided that *this* was the time to deregulate safeguards for children in care when they were not needed locally...and certainly not about doing better for children
