75 years ago today, the RN sunk the German battleship off the coast of Norway, during the Battle of North Cape. Canadians served in a number of His Majesty's Ships during the action. HMCS Huron, Haida, and Iroquois, were escorts for Scharnhorst's bait: convoy JW 55B.

1943 the German battlecruiser was sunk by Admiral Fraser in HMS DUKE OF YORK at the Battle of North Cape, off Norway. This victory cemented the supremacy of the seas.

Frank Searle was on cruiser HMS Good Hope which sank with all hands at the Battle of Coronel under heavy fire trying to run down on 1.11.1914. Scharnhorst was sunk a month later at the Battle of the Falkland Islands

Just received email from elderly cousin on cruise ship far above . It was here in off , Europe's most N pt, that German battleship was sunk by UK-Norway vessels .Now leisure passengers send msgs from mobiles.I can't be blasé about modtech

The - an 11-inch gunned battlecruiser. In 1943 this formidable ship joined the Bismarck-class Battleship Tirpitz in Norway to intercept the allied convoys to Russia. She was sunk in the Battle of the North Cape. 1,927 German sailors were killed.
