On this day in 2009, a potential disaster turned into a heroic display of skill & composure when Capt. Chesley Burnett Sullenberger III safely landed the Airbus 320 he was piloting on ’s Hudson River after a bird strike caused its engines to fail.

11 years ago today, someone in the newsroom yelled, a plane just landed in the Hudson!” At ABC7 in NYC we were close to the river. We rushed crews over and that was the beginning of one of the most unbelievable stories I have covered. Couldn’t believe my eyes - amazing!
