Some additional info here in our very recent paper: BTW, love this figure (fig 8) Blue areas where -ASCAT is best performing! Large areas! If you do some testing please let us know! Cross-checking is fundamental for good science :)

yes you are right, the seasonality may ‘artificially’ increase correlation values and more diagnostics like looking at the short term variability is needed. Did you already put this data set in ?
