Romanesque capital from the Basilica of St. Mary Magdalene in Vezelay, Burgundy, dating from around 1120-1140. The carving represents the ‘Mystic Mill’ as the Old Testament (the grain) is turned into flour (the New Testament).

It’s not but this lintel at Bredwardine has interesting iconography. Part of the Hereford School of sculpture, the figures are likely to be the devil (similar to Hereford Cathedral) and Luxuria, a feminine personification of Lust.

It might be of interest - this church at Runcton Holme (visited this a.m.) was still thatched in 1845 according to White’s Directory. It has details, built of local carstone & brick from the restoration of 1841. It is c10 miles away from Barton Bendish & Beachamwell
