I’m still mad that we learned nothing about Wilson’s racism in high school. The damn essay I had to write about Wilson’s role in saving the world is wasted time I will never get back.

Partly spurred on by the “Birth of a Nation” film, white supremacists re-launched the KKK in 1915. On top of Stone Mountain, GA they burned a cross, built and altar, and laid an American flag and a Bible open to Romans 12 on top.

“Jim Crow is a set of beliefs, attitudes, and stone monuments.” United Daughters of the Confederacy, a group of white southern women, took control of the confederate narrative, “lifting them up from defeat” as heroes. Those lies are still pushed in schools.

Although black activists expressed tentative confidence in Woodrow Wilson at first, the president quickly revealed himself as a white supremacist. He showed in the White House. Wilson happened to be the son of a Presbyterian minister.
