Devastated to hear about the passing of Ian Cognito (Cogs) what an absolutely wonderfully bonkers man. He literally died on stage and he’d have fucking loved a death as mad and funny as he was. A proper loss to comedy and a true character. 💔

"Men are from Mars and women are from Venus. Men are from Mars and women are from Venus..." <Enormous pause full of tension, threat and the fallout from years of chaotic relationships> "You know it rains sulphuric acid on Venus." Fuck me, he was so funny.

Lets spare a thought for Cognito's demons who are now getting some well deserved rest after 60 years of trying to keep up with the mad bastard

I think I’m going to miss the late night calls from Cogs the most, the ones that started with “do you know this cunt (insert name)” then a twenty minute rant. He was balls out (literally at times) in your face, edgy and funny as fuck. We’re all going to miss you pal. xxx

I hope Cogs was last on the bill, otherwise that would be a VERY tough gig to turn around.

Trying to cheer myself up by watching footage I have of him dropping a baby onstage at a gig.

I saw him throw a Christmas tree at a heckler once. Now that’s how you deal with a shitty Christmas gig

Only adding to the cacophony because I don't feel right about tweeting anything else before I do, but the man responsible for me becoming a comedian and a true (if rather argumentative) friend. The baton is dropped. No-one is fit to pick it up.

I mean, I just assumed Ian Cognito was invincible? RIP mate, thanks for the laughs, of which there were many. And to go at a gig? Well I can’t think of anything more fitting. Love to all that loved him xxx

We lost a comedian, didn’t know him, but he was part of our family. My heart is with his loved ones.

I only met Ian Cognito a few times, one of which was at Baby Blue in Liverpool. He asked a guy on the front row if he could have a drink of his pint. The guy said no, so Cogs got his dick out, put it in the guy’s pint, swished it round and said: “How about now?”

Did many gigs with Ian Cognito. Always charming and helpful to me off stage and like a dangerous but captivating Dickensian villain on it! A one off.

"Weight lifting coach? I reckon I could do it - Oi you, pick that up" - Ian Cognito Honoured to have been the last act to share a bill with him.

I first met the infamous Ian Cognito in Belfast, me a pup and him a comedy legend and the man was as warm, welcoming and encouraging as someone with a vested interest. I suppose he had: to help people be better than they should have been. What an absolute gentleman

I’ve been crying and laughing all day. He means a lot to me and in the most science-defying yet beautifully unifying way, he means a lot to so many others. I love him. He was a dear friend and taught me more than he could ever know. He’d be livid.

I gigged twice with the in-your-face legend - a mobile phone warehouse in Birmingham (1996?) & a Screwfix comedy night 2-3 years ago. He has finally hung his hat up for good

The number of comedians commenting on how great he was and thanking him for all the advice over the years, tells you all you need to know about the man.
