As someone who went to Cambridge from a very ordinary comprehensive I feel like I’ve said countless times that I found it to be stuffed full of not very bright people who felt it was their entitled birthright to rule the country.

So you know the moral of this tale is that until we do something about Eton and Westminster and all the rest (stop their charity status, ban their tax breaks, turn them into comprehensives, whatever) we aren’t going to solve the problem at or indeed in wider society.

is trending. May I add an experience as a kid? Lots of young people are bright enough to go to Oxbridge from state schools, the reason they don't is because of lack of confidence / encouragement. Oxbridge aren't actively cherry picking from 'top' schools.

I'm not sure what all the fuss is all about. I once dated a girl who'd gone to Cambridge. I went to Manchester. One evening, whilst watching University Challenge, I answered more questions than her. Waste of money that degree of hers. 🤭

Super idea. Put all the working class & BAME students/staff in one massive fenced-off campus where we can practice our vulgar 'identity politics' and 'special pleading' while the Good White Elite Meritocrats can get on with the Proper Business of Education.

When you meet one of those try hard embarrassingly class based idiots. Who wants to tell you about their pedigree. Oxbridge. How intelligent their children are. Mocking me as a garden designer. And I just think... Jesus...you were the fastest sperm.

One third ⅓ of A level students who scored A*AA grades did NOT apply for last year. The reason? “Fear of failure.” Maybe teaching resilience and character is needed on the ? Cc

Looking at the UK’s current political elite and its stunning degree of ineptitude, I can’t help but wonder what schools and universities these politicians went to and how these institutions could have failed so badly. You’re welcome.

I’m at Sixth form where 41 students have received offers to study at - 40 of them are from BAME background. Many of these pupils come from one of London’s poorest boroughs - more on this afternoon

On a totally different note, I'm seeing a lot about in the news. I'm proud to be a Cambridge graduate as someone from the state system..it can be done. I found it to be a welcoming and inclusive place ..don't be put off by the headlines...

Opportunities present themselves in different ways, whether that be an degree or a Summer on - it's making the best of them that's important. The stats are not always what they seem & a direct comparison seems to miss the mark...!

I'm not going to get too stuck into this entire discussion today because interviews and trying to make sure all of our candidates are welcomed, happy, and safe has left me absolutely shattered. BUT I will say one thing...
