I'm in Spain this month. So many elderly brits living here trying to return to UK because of health concerns. Can the NHS cope? They can't sell their retirement homes. They are very very angry. Many of them voted leave!!

They cut my favourite line about โ€œthe ghost of a marmalade salesmanโ€ but here I am in the Independent. โ€œWhere does that leave us? With a xenophobic government and a health service teetering on the brink of collapse.โ€ Merry Christmas.

If youโ€™ve got nothing to do on Christmas and some cash to spare, head down to the hospital with pizza, a tray of sandwiches or honestly any kind of sweets for the staff. Christmas doesnโ€™t exist to NHS workers, theyโ€™ll be saving lives for another 16 hours straight
