Thread. 😊 After operation , German High Command regarded the Allied bridgehead north of the Waal River as a severe threat. It might be used as a springboard to the north and cut off the 15 Army in the western part of Holland and threaten the plains of NW Germany.

‘’Out of ammo. God Save the King’’ The last radio message from those defending bridge on this day. Not sure I have the words to describe or do such bravery justice. The very definition of dedication to duty against all odds

"Stanisław Pleszynski fought as a Polish paramilitary in Arnhem. After the war, he stayed in the Netherlands and started a family. His grandson is now part of the Dutch armed forces as well."

“10 miles from the bridge, what is the surprise” - General Sosabowski and his Polish Independent Parachute Brigade were given an impossible task & then scapegoated for the operation’s failure. Today their heroism and sacrifice is commemorated!

On this day in 1944, Operation Market Garden began. Allied paratroopers landed in the Netherlands in a failed attempt to capture the Arnhem bridge over the Rhine. It was the largest airborne operation at the time.

Incredible what you can find in the Netherlands. Dennis Polman & his Nyma Outdoor Gym via Waal River. Smoke session with the team as we go into our final day of . Amazing week of remembrance & celebration of our freedom paid for in blood by those that went before.
