Thank you for sharing , "Life is interdisciplinary and so all units should also be!" Great point, are we preparing students for success in a subject or life?

Yes, an interdisciplinary approach can be highlighted everywhere but it takes such a huge shift in a school culture. It is such a low priority in some contexts because of resistance to change even a timetable. Ts willing and ready, admin not.

A6 Yes Crit D asks for reflection on how disciplines acquire knowledge. Very TOK. But guidance for teachers in TSM poor in supporting cognitive awareness of this link. MYP teachers would benefit from understanding how their subject makes valid knowledge claims.

A2. I staggered IDU's, giving the time required. It worked but was a headache to manage. shared the idea of an MYP IDU week. I love this & want to do this also. Will only work if planned appropriately & it could be like a mini PP. Celebrate it too!

BUT they change the meaning of the terms! Crit D asks Ss to reflect on WOKs but no mention of 8 WOKs - it is more like Methodology from Knowledge Framework (I checked this with Hague) For purposes of Continuum terminology should ideally be consistent

Inclusion shouldn't be a group of kids we manage. It should be an attitude we adopt.

Might we distinguish between ID learning, ID teaching, and ID assessment? A convo with clarified that ID learning is the end goal. The point is what Ts assess, may not be what Ss learn in a unit, and may be different from what is taught. ...

Not sure I’m understanding, but from that logic why have an inclusion policy at all since knowledgeable and caring are part of the learner profile? Or a language policy because communicator is part of the LP and ATL? Of course those elements flow through everything.

A1 - I think that life is interdisciplinary and so all units should also be! I think that as a teacher-librarian, like the MYP coordinator I get to see all the units of all the years and see all the wonderful potential for connection and integration. Reality is harder

Yes! I also often feel a good IDU should engage students with service learning as well. This, however, might be ambitions due to the lack of planning time and shared understanding among teachers.

A2: to support teachers with IDU creation we try to inspire through what the teacher's passions are. Nothing more powerful than two teachers making a cross-subject area connection. Then we try and help them focus on a transformative product/summative learning experience.

Thank you PYP TD learning --> MYP ID learning --> DP D learning... If so important, how does DP support interdisciplinary learning?

Hey Lars can you expand on MYP being unable to shift as a failing? I interpret this more as MYP being more flexible than we realise and when we try to implement it with a traditionalist approach (stick to the letter not the spirit) we fail the MYP .

One of our biggest challenges has been the further planning time for IDU teaching teams. No sustained ID planning is possible for us as the time needed is not available. We can plan in our disciplinary teams but that leads to the ID connections faltering

G7 Ss grading each other using criteria ABD. Their faces are priceless. A day in the life of a teacher. Next step. I’ll sit with each ‘examiner’ to standardize the grade.
