The faith my parents subscribed to and that I was raised with embraces prayer as communication with God, fuel for compassionate engagement and as access to courage to do the work of justice and peacemaking. Not as vain words uttered in lieu of doing the work. Faith + works.

Mr. Bennett used his gifted writing to work for justice. He authored ‘Before the Mayflower,’ one of the largest selling Black history books of all time. Mr. Bennett attended Morehouse w/  . In 1996, he was awarded The King Center’s Salute to Greatness Award.
