This is a Swan Mussel, which was found in Birchmere Lake. They only live in fresh water so it’s a good indication of how clean the lake is.

The watercourse, banks, and surrounding valley provide a green and blue corridor in an otherwise urban landscape. Our volunteers have spent this week removing invasive Himalayan Balsam from its banks, and unfortunately an illegal crayfish trap too
