At 5:04 pm I will say my thanks to the universe and remember and toast those who weren’t as fortunate, as I have done every October 17th beginning in 1990.

29 years ago. I'm practicing piano. Mom says "just an earthquake, keep playing". Little sis comes running out of the bedroom & literally freezes. Glasswares, cabinets, boxes, etc all come crashing down in the house. Longest 15 seconds of my life.

SF 1989 quake: As we finished our live shots we drove away in the news van but the photog left the mast up. It hit power lines but the photog kept driving until it bent the mast all the way to the ground. We're alive because the power was out in the Marina District

was 16 and playing tennis and watched the ground. The court made of concrete literally looked like a small wave ran through the court a foot high. I literally saw a concrete wave that day. And the chain fencing around was slamming up and down with a jackhammer sound

My dad ABSOLUTELY INSISTED that I go to school the next day. Aptos Middle off of Ocean. That was a bizarre day. Only about 10% of students showed up.

My wife and I were there, sitting second deck, section 15. The crowd around us bellowed out a communal, "Yeah, earthquake! ... now let's play ball." After a few quick aftershocks, any bravery turned into, "we should probably get out of here."

UNFORGETTABLE DAY: Today marks 29 years since the earthquake hit the killing 63 people. If you lived here in 89' you remember exactly where you were. I was picking up my little brother from school when the shaking started. Your memories of that day?
