The contradiction in the claims between the 2010 O GLOBO article and what was cited by the prosecutors in the case against Lula was ignored. Lula was charged with 9 years in prison with his sentence eventually ratcheted up to 12 years.

The Secret Brazil archive demonstrates that Dallagnol had insufficient evidence to link Lula with Petrobras. Without the link to Petrobras, the entire case would have fallen apart and instead be subject to a lower jurisdiction.

Though I don't believe Lula is spotless regarding it's clear that the charges against him were trumped up and the result of collusion incompatible with any fair judicial system. He deserves a retrial at the least.

What is especially damning is that Moro more or less designed and constructed his own case even though he claimed he was doing so "apolitically." Moreover, he was ultimately elevated to "super justice minister" by Bolsonaro for his troubles.
