Happy ! On this day, Latinas catch up on the earnings made by non-hispanic white men in 2019. 10 extra months of work. 55 cents to the dollar. This means that a Latina will lose $1,121,440 over the course of her career.

Understanding Latinas make 45¢ less an hour is not all-encompassing of how big the problem of is. It takes a Latina 22 MONTHS to earn what a white man does in ONE YEAR. That’s DOUBLE the work across LIFETIMES. This problem is not HOURLY. It’s GENERATIONAL.

Like other Latinas in academia I too was underpaid for decades & the truth is once you start low you never catch up. I’m so glad new generations are so much wiser/confident. This let’s ensure we end the cycle, & work towards equity & wage transparency.

It’s absurd that Latina moms have to work PAST the age of 100 to catch up to what their white, male counterparts make by the age 60. This , I am committing to being an equal pay voter by voting for candidates who will close the gender wage gap once and for all.

It’s that time of year again. It's the day that Latina’s average pay finally catches up to what white men made last year.   This has got to stop. It’s time we make a thing of the past and pass the Paycheck Fairness Act.
