Today marks the anniversary of the December 29, 1890 Massacre. These are the names of all Lakota men, women, and CHILDREN who were mercilessly slaughtered. The US soldiers were awarded the US Medal of Honor for their murders.

Doris Leader Charge, a studies teacher at Sinte Gleska University, died on this day in 2001. Her knowledge was invaluable to the cast of Dances With Wolves — she translated parts of the script into Lakota, served as dialogue coach and played Pretty Shield in the film.

1st step done...Senate Bill 126, to recognize Lakota/Dakota/Nakota as the official indigenous languages of South Dakota, passes unanimously in Senate State Affairs Committee. Next steps: getting it through Senate and House.
