Yesterday was Fricker's Eagle Brewery stood on Eagle Wharf, behind the High St from the early 19thC. In 1903 it was sold to rivals Hodgson's. The Eagle Tap pub lasted till 1965 when it was closed by magistrates as there were 17 pubs in a half mile radius!

The common Hoptree is rare in Canada and the threatened species is only found along the shores of Lake Erie. Found in the Park, the dried winged fruits of the Common HOPTREE are occassionally used as a substitute for hops in the process of brewing beer

Hops are important in brewing beer, & was an important part of West Worcs agriculture & still grown on some farms. Here are 2 photos from 1906 & 1917 from the archives of hop picking & an 1894 map of the hop growing parishes in Herefordshire & Worcestershire
