There was an explosion @ the State Research Center of Virology & Biotechnology VECTOR near Novosibirsk, Russia.I inspected the facility years ago, which stores & virus, on behalf of the US State Dept. It is unlikely that the explosion led to pathogen release.

It was inspiring to visit the Ebola Treatment Centre in Butembo, with U.S. and see first-hand our joint work caring for those infected. When patients get treatment early, they have more than a 90 percent chance of survival.

1. news: +2 health workers have been infected, bringing the outbreak total among HCWs to 159; 41 have died. HCW case fatality — 26% — is far lower than among cases overall. 1 was vaccinated, 1 was not. Don't ask me why 1 wasn't vaxed or when the vaxed one was vaxed. Dunno.

1. update: +9 cases on Saturday, none in Goma & vicinity nor in Mwenga, in South Kivu. +5 deaths, 1 a community death. To date in this outbreak, there've been 3128 people infected with Ebola (at least) & 2095 of them have died.
