75 years ago Private Jack Banks died in Normandy from wounds received while trying to take out an enemy machine gun. Aged 16, Jack was one of the youngest Commonwealth servicemen to die in Normandy & is buried ’s Jerusalem War Cemetery.

Brig. Gen. Theodore Roosevelt, Jr. On 6/6/44 he came ashore at Utah Beach with the first wave of men from the U.S. 4th Infantry Division at age 56, earning the Medal of Honor for his valor. 5 weeks later, he died of a heart attack while serving in France.

Moving moment at the Normandy American Cemetery and Memorial as they retire the colors. 1000 people watching, maybe 5% American, not a sound. It’s hard to comprehend the sacrifice of that generation. We get upset if the greens were verticut a week ago.
