This is what senseless violence does. Even long after the initial act, it leaves scars for years to come, and takes lives beyond the first death toll - mentally and physically. My heart goes out to family, friends, and those who Austin helped.

Let me get this straight: When schools notice warning signs of a potential shooter in a student, and they investigate, it's "profiling" or "making assumptions." ...But when a student DOES shoot up their school, and no one saw the signs, it's "neglect"?

My short time in public health, and far longer working with victims or survivors of trauma and abuse remind me we don’t always get the full list of casualties in the immediate aftermath of events. Trauma is a patient predator. It will wait years to kill

17th book of 2019: by . I was sparked to read this because of interviews I saw Cullen doing around the 20th anniversary. I appreciated this book for many reasons, but mostly the way he so gently and carefully dispels myths.
