This goes to the heart of it. How much car ownership, by gross numbers, is "acceptable"? Let's call it , to discuss it in similar terms to . If we don't cap car density, then the number of people w/o cars increases *and* their lives get worse, each year.

I'd like to see the stats for trip provenance though, anonymised by street or top-level postcode if need be. If we think of car impact in terms of number of cars owned / hectare () rather than percentage ownership, Hackney may have one of the highest in the UK.

The broader pattern behind transformations of industrial zones is increasing urban , which we know councils do not measure or analyse, & which we know many self-styled advocates often assert is "manageable", to alibi their own car ownership.

As you say, it's the spatial impact (including when parked). We really need to present stronger disincentives against car ownership in high residential density areas, & also measure success against rather than % ownership, which is always low in town, so misleads.

, in terms of the percentage of kerbside given over to local car storage, must surely be a variable. Much residential density is on main roads anyway. Main-road residential areas have negligible car ownership, but are driven through by local-side-street motorists.

Worrying, but unsurprising given the upwards trend of car ownership across London. It's resulting in additional , outcompeting kerbside use alternatives & thronging the motorist-lobby voice. When the Dutch made their leap, car storage was less embedded.
