My lovely girl, do not wait under the sycamore tree as the violets pale with Winter's bone. Do not linger in the chicory blue, wilting on the edge of forever. He is not coming. He will not save you. The only hero you need is staring back from the mirror.

If degenerates can’t demonstrate value and an ability to improve your chances of surviving, then you need to get rid of him/her. Sometimes losers and bad guys have come-to-Jesus moments in a crisis and they stepup and become heroes. I wouldn’t bet on that potential.

Every villain is the hero of their own story, or so he’d heard. But as Sage wiped the bloody blade on his pant leg & pushed the body into a shallow grave, he didn’t feel like a hero. A life for a life though, that was justice. Too bad it wouldn’t bring his son back.

“Is Petey their leader?” “No way, it is a guy named, Comacho, he never shows his face in town. If you cross paths with Comacho, you need to understand he is a killer. Petey is his eyes and ears; you can’t trust that old scar-face any further than you can throw him.”

‘Dearon forms part of that safety net. No matter how badly I screw up relationships here, I know he’s back at the conclave, waiting for me. But I don’t know if my attraction stems from knowing he’ll be there or whether it goes deeper than that.’

Lorna had it. She didn't know what 'it' was - the sway of her hips, the swell of her breasts, her natural honey scent - but, whatever, she knew it attracted men like moths to a flame. And with them came the predators; the lizards and snake she seemed to end up with.

"Morning greetings to you, Dix," says Plinka. "Don't you look lovely today," I say. "You have an abundance of attraction, Dix," she replies. "Are you urgently going anywhere?"

Mia probably wasn’t as stunned as she should be. It wasn’t that Shafi’s evidence didn’t change anything – it made him walk lighter than he had in months – but it felt so much like an afterthought. A resigned ‘of course’ tacked onto the end of a terrible conversation.

In a zombie apocalypse you might think the villain would be zombies, but you would be wrong. The villain is unpreparedness. It would blow your mind to know how utterly unprepared - utterly unprepared - we are for almost any sort of public threat.

“You saw my strength,” Barakiel said. “It comes from Balance, the equilibrium of the elemental forces of Creation and Destruction. Of order and entropy, attraction and repulsion, love and hate.”

“It’s raw animal attraction.” “Why must my grandmother think my life is a romance novel?” I looked up. “No one up there to reform me.” She made a sound in the back of her throat. “Now get out there and make the most of this.” She slapped my butt.

"Are you familiar with the regulatory provisions?" "No, but I should be able to figure it out. Do you come to many games yourself?" "No, I have no attraction to witness Arbiters running about on a court creating such bedlam," says Plinka.

Claire frowned. “Why would the Aughtsiders want to help Dr. Plague?” “Dunno.” Alistair shrugged. “Maybe he made ‘em a really good deal. We think he's sellin’ ‘em Science or weapons. Theys gotten too advanced in their technology too fast a Faerever’s gotta be behind it.”

She is Bourbon Street. Every cobble; every juke joint's honey-sung Summertime, every gas lantern undulating against the delta blue. Oh, to be a bead of curry sweat sliding fire along that copper collarbone, attracting men like moths in the dark.

"I just can't anymore, Amy. Life with you is like being with a despairing hero who has given up everything in a fruitless quest to find a villain who once committed a great crime against her. It’s a neverending fable that provides no comfort to either one of us.”

It wasn’t like I had never seen attractive men before. It was just that usually when I saw them they were on the other end of my katana.

The metallic smell of fresh blood sickened her.Elice turned her face from the heat of his rancid breath but the long bony fingers curled around her throat squeezed tighter, forcing her to remain still. She couldn’t reason with a Reaper, she was going to die

She’s not fazed by the haughtiness and prissy attitude. She looks him straight in the eye, like a defiant deer staring down the speeding sedan. Her fearlessness is one of the reasons that I love her.
