Nice clean blackgrass free wheat in the middle of lots of blackgrass. Why I hear you all asking... DELAYED DRILLING! Field drilled 4th October, missed a bit, patched in on 24th- after pre and peri em sprayed

Squareheads Master 1860-1950 - don’t think was such a problem back then. Shame the yield can’t complete and lodging risk is much higher

Ploughing really can be a useful cultural control if used in the right situation for , same tramline 1st picture single pass drill, middle - tines then drill, 3rd plough then drilled. All plots rolled. Pictures are untreated herbicide

Baling our 2nd cut Lucerne today, yielding very well again, 7 weeks on since 1st cut. It’s a fantastic forage for our dairy cows, excellent at improving the soil and is one of many tools helping us to beat

I’m far from saying you can grow hybrid barely if you have bad pressure. But this is historically a naughty area. Later drilling and a hybrid doing the trick. Very small single tiller plants of BG struggling for light. Barely has some stems on it!

Delayed drilling and stale seedbeds. Blackgrass now growing nicely but after 132 mils of rain in seven days you can no longer walk on it let alone spray it or even think about drilling.

Direct drilled on 7th Nov Lili 2nd winter wheat looking great in the sunshine this morning. Only cost so far seed with single purpose seed dressing, drilling and a pre-emergence/glyphosate spray. No to be seenπŸ˜ƒ and now looking forward to spring.
