Good weeding session yesterday at the Turnham Green bed. But 300 cigarette butts - what is it about smokers that makes them think a butt is not litter?

🚬Cigarette filters contain thousands of chemical ingredients, including: 🔫plastic ☠️arsenic, 🔋lead and 🛢nicotine.... ...all of which can leak into marine environment. Just one cigarette butt per litre of water is highly toxic to fish. 🐟 🚭

🌍Do you ❤️ the planet? 🛍️Use a reusable shopping bag? 💧Carry a refillable water bottle? ♻️Recycle? 🗑Responsibly dispose of cigarette butts? If you don’t because they’re made of plastic so if they go down the drain, can pollute our rivers and seas 😟

Poisons leach from harming health and environment alike. 2/3rds of get dropped or flicked! One cigarette butt soaked in a litre of water for 96 hours leaches out enough toxins to kill half of the fish exposed to them.

Did you know you can get fined £140 for throwing a cig on the floor? They are NOT biodegradable and can affect our bodies in the future.
