My interview with Béla Tarr, in which the cinematic great vaguely calls me stupid and then tells everyone to “fuck off”. Bellissimo👌🏼

I shot a of in his flat when I was a student. While the film was screened at the and shown around the world, it hasn’t been seen for 25 years. Finally got round to transferring it onto a file. Happy memories of a great man.

AMAZING GRACE: The lost Aretha Franklin concert film (directed by Sydney Pollack!) finally sees the light of day, and thank goodness it has. A ray of sunshine straight from a the cinema screen, it's an infectious portrait of a bonafide star at the top of her game.

IDOL: Twistier than an uncooked pretzel in a taffy puller. This phenomenally enjoyable Korean thriller throws every plot development it can at the screen and sees what sticks, which is often bemusing, but half the fun is assembling the pieces after the credits roll.

Unintentionally bookended Day 9 with films featuring Tilda Swinton... But it turned out to be solid decision making process. Derek Jarman’s THE GARDEN and Joanna Hogg’s THE SOUVENIR were both totally thrilling in their own way.
