To those who were LL for : Congratulations & good luck! One of my writer friends was SL last year & now has a publishing deal. To those who are disappointed to not be LL: Don’t give up! One of my writer friends wasn’t LL last year & now has a deal with the same publisher.

Unbelievably excited to see my title here! Huge congratulations to everyone on the long list. And to everyone feeling disappointed today (as I have been in previous years), be proud of yourselves for putting the work out there.

Everybody waiting for the teasers desperate to see something that will convince you that you’re in the running - you are in the running!! You wrote and polished and shared a whole dang novel. Be proud of you NOW.

I think we can all agree that each of us saw our own novel in at least 5 of those teasers! 😳😂

Take heart from this, all who didn’t make the LL this year. I didn’t - with a book I feel is stronger and am more passionate about than the one I entered last year that DID make the long list. Subjective and hard this writing business... just have to keep going...

Just got home, sodden after a puddle-splashing car tried to drown me, still smiling. The cat still hasn’t eaten the Christmas tree (yet). And I’m officially on holiday. Today has not sucked. Though I do need a towel.

To distract us all from the LL announcement at 12 (and the ensuing disappointment we’ll all experience), post the best line from your entry below and if I like it, it’s a YES from me! ♥️

For those of you nervously following the teasers (*raises hand*), remember this! I think there were around 26 longlisted titles from 750 entries last year. That’s about 3.5% chance or 1 in 29. If you don’t get LL, it doesn’t mean you don’t have a good book 👇👇

There's a part of me that doesn't want the longlist announcement to happen at all, on the grounds that, at the moment, I still have hope... 😧
