9 JULY 1918 - WARRANT OFFICER CORPS BIRTHDAY An Act of Congress established the Mine Planer Service (MPS) on 9 July 1918, creating the warrant officer ranks. An Act in 1920 expanded warrant officer appointments to administrative, clerical and band-leading positions.
