Academics! (esp grad students) If you didn't continue in academia/research, what would you want to do instead? Can be realistic or pipe dreams. I've always liked the idea of running a used bookstore/coffee shop where cool, nerdy college students hang out.

Friends in academia: Quick reminder: It’s the weekend now. Take time for the things and people you love. The academy can wait. You sacrifice enough. Sincerely, Someone who doesn’t take their own advice.

Dear Academic twitter, Is it professional or okay that a professor doesn't reply to mails containing questions even after 2 reminders ?? PS: He requested to be asked and notified, I act accordingly.

So, I’m not the only prof I know with . With visible inattention and disorganization traits you’d think we’d be bad at academics. Given the invisible symptom of rejection sensitivity dysphoria you’d think we’d have a rough time with constant critique. 1/8

Stress while doing thesis work can be a vicious cycle. Stress --> need to destress --> stress about lost time --> need to destress.

The pressure of "You have to have your phD by the age of 30 at most" kills me daily. I am seriously considering starting a flower/art shop business instead !

After triple-checking my PI's not on Twitter, I've got to spill it out to the interwebz—we birthday-pranked his office into a tiny art gallery. , this is what you came for. (if you know him, please don't spoil :P )

Can there be one rebuttal round between the editor and the author, before the editor decides between a rejection and a second chance through a reject and resubmit. It's one extra email to read, and only increases the evidence before a decision. [1/2]

Wondering how Academics of color have been treated because of what they were wearing while teaching or presenting... have a story to share?

How feasible / good would it be for universities to have PhD lounge areas designated explicitly for sleeping/ resting? This would probably reduce stress and increase productivity of PhD students.
