Thought of the day: If professors openly admit what Hogwarts houses they associate with, it may be easier to help students pick an advisor and research group.

Can people just stop calling everything and anything in academia sexy!?! Lectures, research fields, conferences, buildings, presentations DO NOT HAVE TO BE SEXY!!! Like wtf does that even mean 🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️

Okay👏AWKWARD👏TRUE👏STORY👏TIME👏 I interviewed for several programs before getting into my current one. Only one interview has really stuck with me because it was a failure of awkward proportions. (1/8)

Please take a moment to reflect on all those in academia who work tirelessly supporting the learning, scholarship & research of others only to find a few angry voices on Twitter can rapidly destroy their reputation & morale. We must debate & disagree, but not this!

Writing tip - when I’m crunching to a deadline I turn off all email badges and notifications (TBH I do this all the time) Even the number of unread email messages is as bad as an alarm. “Wait that used to be 23, now it’s 24... better look”

This must be "weird application week". Appl. #1 was sent by the brother of the applicant who, being a postdoc, probably felt entitled to vouch for his brother's PhD application. Appl. #2 was sent by an applicant who indicated his father as a reference person.

This taxes me 😑: We in don’t respect one another’s time. Even when someone is “away,”we STILL silently expect (or even demand) them to respond to emails, to join meetings and calls. This needs to stop. Let’s allow one another to take breaks: , be with
