BREAKING: The algerian government has called elections for 12 Dec but the overwhelming sentiment at this Friday’s protests was that the people do not wish to vote for a candidate from among the ‘gangs’. (Peaceful, peaceful, and there will be no elections)

-n army chief of staff, , ordered the Gendarmerie forces to block access to the capital on Fridays, seize vehicles and impose fines on citizens. This is unconstitutional and a violation of the universal right of freedom of movement. Dangerous escalation!

What's happening in reminds me of the literature I read on The Gestapo & other terrible secret police agencies. Kidnappings at night, hostility & no rule of law! If the protest movement doesn't achieve its goals, Algeria will sink into a horrific military dictatorship.

extraordinary day in with record turnout of anti-government protesters demanding peaceful end of the military regime. I don’t know if junta chief understands the magnitude of the trouble he’s in. Has no support from single segment of the population.

is under-reported, just like were many countries before an explosion. While I understand the challenges facing many journalists & researchers, I insist that this country deserves your attention, it is drawing one beautiful picture of a peaceful struggle for freedom.

The recent decision of -n army chief of staff, , to close all access to the capital on Fridays is in fact imposing a de-facto state of siege, and a step towards justifying the decision to impose a state of emergency in the future.
