17.10.1939 Royal Navy lost 3 on SS Yorkshire. merchant navy lost 4 on SS Clan Chisholm sunk by U48 (42 survivors) and 6 on SS City of Mandalay sunk by U46. All were returning from India. 2 navy killed at Scapa Flow during bombing raid, 1 other navy from Chatham base died.

18.10.1939 other RAF losses include a Battle from 52sqn with 2 killed, a Blenheim I with 2 killed in a night flying accident and 1 in a Harvard trainer. A Flight Lt drowned while bathing in Hong Kong and an airman from 226sqn in France died whilst undergoing an operation.

16.10.1939 Royal Navy lost one on Isle of Man Shore Establishment. Army lost 9; 1 in Zambia, 1 France, 1 Australia, 1 NZ, 4 UK and 1 Ireland. RAF lost 2 from 36sqn in Singapore in an air accident crash (Vickers Wildebeest III light bomber) and 1 in 90sqn in a Blenheim IV.

13.10.1939 the final RAF casualty is one of 4 people killed in a train crash at Bletchley when two trains crashed at the station.
