The US Senate has rejected Senator Rand Paul's effort to block a $300 million arms sale to Bahrain. White House said it "strongly opposes" Paul's effort, saying the weapons are necessary to defend against Iran.

On the side of one of the larger hills nearby is the remains of an entire town, built in what seemed to be four defensive rings (it wasn't possible to climb past the first circle). There is also evidence of plumbing and what appeared to be a water tank.

The hills from Sohar to Al Batinah seem featureless. Once you get closer you realise each hill is peppered with tens of dozens of cairns, some in better shape than others. C. Bronze Age.

Mostly these graves consist of a small chamber with stones piled atop but others used cut rock to create more stable structures.

The abandoned town of Old Wasid, set in the middle of an Oasis with a defensive fort and enormous well (I couldn't see the bottom). This place is pretty eerie but beautiful.
