New @biorxivpreprint from the lab (biorxiv.org/content/10.110…) that shows choice-predictive feedforward/back signals in V1! Led by @Nwilming. Relevant for anyone interested in #decisionmaking, #evidenceAccumulation, #brainrhythms, #corticalfeedback. Thread. (1/10) pic.twitter.com/YBRJHmFfQG

A research story with a twist
I looked for a neural network regularization method that limited the number of non-zero node activities (L0 group sparsity?) I couldn’t find one.

Decisions between >2 options are tricky. In our newest work, we could not replicate a previous “divisive normalization” or “distractor effect” in decisions btw 3 food snacks. But we found remarkable dynamic interactions between valuation & attention: rdcu.be/b09u0 (1/6)

interesting idea!
I think about linear control (dxdt = Ax + Bu) as a causal model (with Ax being the counterfactual), but IDK much about causal reasoning, & it'd be great to know the formalisms around that

Where hippocampal place cells have their fields is famously hard to predict: if you know how a given subject encodes location or environment A, that doesn't tell you much about how it encodes B. 1/

How hard would you work to prevent loss of $5? As hard as you’d be willing to work to gain $5? Most tend to work harder to prevent loss. This excellent work by @GaleaLab @xiulichen618 explores this question and links loss aversion to dopamine.
