Interestingly, finding purpose through work is accordant with Protestantism and Calvinism. Difference is it's now an intrinsically motivated pursuit.

If you want to understand the political positions held in Silicon Valley I think you need a understanding of how atrociously SF, the Bay and really all of California have been governed, and how viscerally this affects everyone here.

Experts are usually wrong on large deviations from norm. They do ok on incremental projections. Also skeptics never do the impossible or discover anything radically new because they like the safety of company. Large innovation needs large risk

When you "dunk" on someone, when you make mean spirited, superficial or unfunny remarks you don't just make that person and the people who like that person feel shitty. Every impression of that tweet has made the world seem less charitable and kind to the mind that witnessed it.

I’m changing my Twitter habits in the hopes of fostering something better. New Rules: 1. No snark ever. No liking/rting “dunks” (no matter how valid). 2. Aim for high ratio of sharing good work to criticizing bad work. 3. When criticizing, provide solutions or alternative.

Personally I'll be doing the usual thing, taking some time off, sleeping and exercising more, etc, then working on new things. Startups are both tremendously rewarding and exhausting, I'm looking forward to recharging a little :)

By that time, there are usually 100s of employees who traded off salary for equity over many years but aren’t senior enough for access to secondaries. Their aspirations are closer to home down payments than yachts. They at least deserve consideration in the thought process.
