Can we please stop favoring single-family homes please?
The American dream can be found in an apartment, a townhouse, a duplex, a cottage, an inn. Shelter!
We need more housing! Denser is better. Single-family homes arenāt everything

Make California Great Again. I think many people sincerely believe that if public policy were changed to incent the right kind of jobs for the right kind of people, then California would work like it did when they purchased their first home.

This took me a long time to understand: homes get cheaper over time if & only if enough new ones are being built to keep up w/ population.
The California finding āit takes 65 million years for new construction to become affordableā is a locally specific symptom of underbuilding. twitter.com/lenkiefer/statā¦

If youāre mad about SB 50 failing, helping this campaign is a good place to start - the man Masur is running to replace voted against SB 50 and all of her opponents in the primary think denser zoning is bad. @cayimby @penforeveryone twitter.com/skmasur/statusā¦

One of the reasons YIMBYs are here is to give heart to people who've been beaten into complacence by NIMBYs.
4.5 years ago, ADU's were a "political third rail." Now they're legal in every backyard. What else can we accomplish when we fight NIMBYism? twitter.com/AbundantHousinā¦

Anecdotally, many non-spandex cyclists make use of the bike lane.
E-assist bikes *could* make the bike lane a viable commute option for a non-trivial number of people, but I don't have high confidence in that belief.
There should be transit priority lanes too.

#harvardhousingreport Growth in renters since 2010 driven by high-income, college-educated households - especially in high-cost mkts. In prior decades, these wd have been 1st time homebuyers, but barriers to ownership are now too high.

The process by which California allocates tax credit BMR projects has changed in recent years to prioritize building in high-opportunity neighborhoods, motivated in part by the Moving to Opportunity research program.

I'll let @mateosfo speak for himself, but even with 280 characters, nuance is easily lost. I know that many YIMBYs in Berkeley signed a letter asking for that site to be planned to have the highest *number* of BMR units, not just the percentage.

That tweet, in isolation, gives the impression that YIMBYs oppose 100% BMR housing, which is not true. The question in front of Berkeley is should the city maximize the number or the percentage of BMR units. YIMBYs are advocating for the later. 3/3

The mixed-income side wants to maximize the number of BMR units, but doesn't particularly care about the percentage. The idea is to use market-rate construction to subsidize BMR units, so that more low-income people will be able to live there than under the 100% BMR scenario. 2/

The context for that tweet are competing proposals in Berkeley for how to develop a BART station area. One side wants 100% BMR housing, the other wants mixed-income housing. The 100% BMR housing side has not identified funding, so it is very unlikely to happen at scale. 1/
