Exactly Mary & Leigh - respect physiology AND be alert to complexity. We must have the skills to do so.

We need both/and. Both to work to support physiology & women's comfort, confidence & autonomy AND to ensure that women who are sick get expert medical attention promptly. Complex stuff.

Important words Leigh- midwifery is all about seeing a holistic whole picture of what is going on working in partnership with women. In your story your midwife recognised that what you experienced was outside the ‘norm’ thankfully.

A few years ago we had a letter from a researcher working with Sebastian Faulks on a new book of letters, diaries and memories from WWI. Did we know SW Brown who had lived in our house in the 1960s?

Pte Stephen Hayward age 20 served with the Gloucester regiment died 21st March 1918. My great Uncle. But also remembering his older brother Henry who also served and came home a different man. He died the year I was born.
