Such an important read and an important forgotten, part of this region's history. The natural progression of things, the maturing of minds of systems and minds was thwarted, and continued to be in post-colonial era because of coups, from Syria to Iran.

I remember organising a conference at Warwick with Turkish & Greek Cypriots with Lord Hannay in attendance, just before this very vote was put to Cypriots. In 15 years since, I haven't seen an opportunity better than that one to bring a sustainable peace to that beautiful island.

The Guardian view on Donald Trump’s UK visit: a mistake | Editorial ‘He is a dangerous liar whom racists and misogynists think of as one of their own. Mr Trump ought to be held at a distance, not invited for dinner with the Queen.’

After being caught out promoting anti-Muslim conspiracy theorist Paul Watson, this pro-Israeli activist doubles down & engages in Islamophobia 101, asking if I (presumably as I am Muslim) have "unequivocally shown solidarity with Christian community in Sri Lanka". Idiot.

A reminder for - has used his Twitter platform to retweet US white nationalists and British neo-Nazis; to threaten nuclear war with North Korea; to tell people to watch a sex tape by one of his critics; and to incite violence against a black Congresswoman.

I didn't argue the results were true. But taking your assessment would mean the no vote was much larger in terms of percentage points.

As expected, Sisi is using his presidency of the African Union to support Haftar and Sudan's military council. This is one of the worst epochs in this region's history.

The results are not surprising - even if the vote was monitored by the most assiduously careful set of national and international observers, the environment in which these amendments were voted on was hardly conducive to an informed choice.

The whole process has been deeply politicised, and too many suspicions around the transparency or the process exist for us all to expect the results will be accepted at face value. Whether they are true or not is almost besides the point - trust in the system is what is in doubt.
