This is operation Buster-Jangle. It was a series of 7 such tests by the USA in 1951. Later in 1958 a top secret plan called project A119 was developed to activate such nuclear tests on the moon? The project was abandoned due to fear of a negative public reaction. VC Atomcentral pic.twitter.com/4nMdRjs5lL

The nuclear arms race was so scary. Most people my age that I speak to don't know anything about the Cold War, but our present world is still deeply shaped by it. I'd recommend the documentary "Trinity and Beyond" for a historical view of the nuclear arms race

Strontium-90, Caesium-137 and Cobalt-60 have terrible effects but it's good to understand them.
Thanks for the video, tremendous footage! :)

Do you know where the testing took place? I suspect Nevada?

There were many tests in Nevada, also in the Pacific (including a very big one at Bikini Atoll called Castle Bravo), and there were some high-altitude and space tests too. Check out Trinity and Beyond, it's a very good doco if you want to get an overview about nuclear tests. :)
