You hear it so often after a loss of a loved one: "You are so strong". It seems like an appropriate, maybe helpful thing to say, but it's not. Saying this suggests that you SHOULD be strong, or if you're not feeling strong, then you begin to feel badly about yourself.

When I told my mom that I wanted to interview her about when my father proposed to her 65 years ago I could feel her smile through the telephone. The bereaved DO want to talk about their loved ones...

We all know what traditional funeral clothes look like, but what about a dress code for the person who has died?

Dear stop intimidating bereaved people.Stop telling them how to feel. Stop pushing them into "happiness" or "healing"(hint: it doesn't work). Stop the psychological violence. Stop interfering with what they need to do, or not do, to take care of their broken hearts

I decided to give a one time tell all interview. Mom. I miss you daily every day and strive to make you proud, both with what I’m sharing here and every day of my life. I miss and love you more than words can say...

Sometimes widowed dads get forgotten after the funeral and after the kids are back in school. Do you know a father who could use a hand with his kids? Maybe a chat over coffee, lunch or beer?
