Quitting is often seen as a bad thing, but it's really not. It's the only way to get to a better place from where we are. 🌤
Here's a story of how I quit my day job to pursue self-employment. Spoiler, it wasn't easy.

Working with Legacy Code is something I've been doing for years.
In fact, it's the thing I do the most at work. 😅
In 2020, I decided I'll start sharing what I know on the topic. So I can help more devs than just my coworkers!

Oh wow. I recently started getting up at the same time every day and just realized, in retrospect, that I've been sleeping much better lately.
Thanks for helping me realize that it's working! 😀

That make sense. That also seemed to be relayed quite a bit in Why We Sleep. Consistency is key 🔑

If you had a late night, how do you make up for it the next day? 🛌

A worry junior engineers and new hires frequently have is that they ask too many questions.
The most common advice I've heard is to try to figure it out yourself for 30 min, and if you're still stuck, ask. This is reasonable advice, but I don't think it's actually very good.

That's really interesting and it totally make sense.
I wonder if tech companies lag behind because they still think software is valuable IP. When, in reality, the software powering 99% of companies is trivial and not inherently valuable on its own.

Thanks, hehe 😉
I really a lot on GitHub issues for that now. It's nice because people can search before posting to avoid duplicates, then popular stuff bubbles up.
I still get a lot of feedback elsewhere but I can't always reply to everything anymore.

HelpScout, Slack, GitHub, Twitter for general support. Then also posting on HN/Reddit for larger announcements. The more channels the better.

Oh ya, that's awesome! Totally makes sense for them too to have their employees "dogfood" the product 🙂

That's a great point! That feedback loop could be a huge catalyst for both parties 🔥

That seems accurate.
I think another bonus to the company openly supporting projects is that there are likely people in the company (founder, CTO, etc) that could offer great advice/mentorship. I would feel much more comfortable approaching them if I felt safe to do so.
