Benny was never that young as a Met, but definitely more impactful.

Mets had just been eliminated from their valiant Wild Card chase. Mendoza's only CF start.

Any more flair like Sunday, Dom will be playing left out.

Mendoza's big moment was breaking up no-hitter Dustin Hermanson was throwing at Mets 9/13/97, later to be known for Carl Everett's 9th inning GS, Gilkey's 11th inning game-winner. Lost to D-Rays in expansion draft.

With Smith LF, Conforto CF, Nimmo RF, seem to be starting their first outfield of players all younger than 26 since September 24, 1997: Butch Huskey LF, Carlos Mendoza CF, Alex Ochoa RF.

Add Brandon Nimmo to the Department of the Interior (a primer on Mets Inside The Park Home Runs from 2015).

A belated Father's Day reminiscence or two--taking my daughter to meet Walt Williams and watching her argue with Lee Smith over whether or not she could hit him.

As with another Throneberryian tale, let Marv have his cake and eat it, too. (But the missed bases game was definitely vs the Cubs.)

Tuesday's LATE cover: hits inside-the-park, outside-the-park HRs, drives in 4 as pummel Rockies to support in 12-2 win. Also, throw splitter at may have new coaching candidate.

SNY promotes tomorrow's game as "Brandon Nimmo and the Mets..." Who at this moment would argue with that characterization?

Nimmo may be the most enthusiastic and comfortable media interview I've ever seen on the Mets, both 1-on-1 and with the gaggle. Not just dutiful or smooth but actually enjoying it and getting it.

Feeling fairly confident that deGrom gets the decision in a Mets win tonight.

deGrom matches career high with 7th straight outing of 7 + IP. He also did so in 2015. NO OTHER P has done so since 2000. (Last with an 8-game streak is Leiter in 1998)
