I don't know... it's one thing to belive you can eat potato salad that's been left in the sun all day. It's another thing to lobby against laws protecting people from food poisoning.

Hell, thanks to theories about What Makes Gay People Gay and What Makes Pedophiles Pedophiles, there's not even really a gender divide in who culturally has to shut up about sexual offenses done against them. Offenses can be forgiven, perceived risk factors are forever.

It's just gross. But in a way I'm glad some of these Christian guys are now being more honest about how they really feel. Stop playing word games, and talking about servant-leadership, and joyful complementarity, and just own it. Speak plain, so we can see you.

There's nothing transcendent about their vision. There's no real healing found here. Its surface calm is an illusion of stagnation, of slow, silent rot and decay under the surface - water which may keep one alive for a time, but slowly kills in its own way.

This is functionally what this "protection" means. They bury trauma in fold upon fold of Christianese to protect reputations and the "natural order" of things. They "protect" the body of Christ from justice and exposure of crimes and evil.

Someone close to me told me the story of the time she reached out for help and support through a sex abuse trauma from a group of older women in her SBC church circle. Their response was "Oh honey, we all have stories like that, we just got over it in time."

This point has come across my feed a few times recently. It's truly absurd to me how some Christian groups attempt to effectively deify masculinity.

Listen to her. That's the phrase you were looking for. Listen to her, listen to the other whistleblowers both within the organization and without. Listen to women who speak authoritatively about their experiences - , , , et al.

"Nigga" which, by the way is NOT the "N-word" still doesn't belong in white mouths.

For many topics, I believe we do our own position a disservice when we fail to provide our own emotional connection & context to what we assert. I wonder how often we'd find we have none, & therefore we might better serve the discussion by listening & centering those who do.

Don't be surprised when, after many years of choosing theology/religion/church over your own family (like you were taught), you reach out to those you've blown off only to find they've chosen their own lives and family to replace who they've lost.

At least he's honest. I appreciate that, ya know? Ironically, if we're gonna talk about "first mistakes", usurping the place of God was always taught to us as Satan's "first mistake" (leading to ours). Patriarchy has been following that lead for thousands of years now.

with everyone, or even half of everyone. I *do* expect to be treated with kindness. I *don't* expect people to be mentally healthy. I *do* expect people to consider that they might not be mentally healthy, and they may not even know what mental health looks like for them.

So, I *don't* expect emotional maturity from people in this space. I *do* expect compassion. I *don't* expect a knowledge of what went on outside the Evangelical community from people in this space. I *do* expect a willingness to learn and grow. I *don't* expect to get along
