It helps to switch mindset from "dammit I should know this" to "oo what can I learn now"

doesn't compel me to binge-watch and I could not be more grateful. That pace is luxurious.

Also there's the difference in approaching errors as sources of discovery vs disappointment because maybe you should know that thing already and now you have to go a few steps back and try again

Learning a new skills seems to be so much easier than re-learning an old one. It's just one straightforward path from knowing nothing to knowing something vs. frantically trying to figure out where the hell on the path you currently are

So much of the defining work of the early digital era will be lost forever. Like, we're doing our best here. We have a fantastic conservation team doing some genuinely cutting-edge work trying to save these things. But the way they're made is self-destroying.

"Nationalism is an infantile disease, it is the measles of mankind." Albert Einstein in 1929 and truer today than it will ever be.

The version of me who is working on something is very different to the version of me who is not working on something: one is a snivelling, self-conscious, self-doubting mess, the other is an unstoppable, problem-solving machine. There is no in-between.

Before you begin, think as if you are a lazy person. Assume the competition will work harder. Your only chance is a better strategy. After you begin, work as if you are a dumb person. Assume the competition is smarter and more talented. Your only chance is to outwork them.

Editing is fun because now you're just solving problems and it's surprisingly easy to pretend you're not the one who caused them.

Also why is there not more writing on deliriously joyous moments? Moments of intense, giddy happiness, with every little nuance of that experience teased out and explored. Many reasons, sure, but it's a shame that it seems quite hard to come by.

Been dabbling with a life-writing thing and it's turning into some surrealist 3rd person thing.

It's nice to think that the 1% you see of a person is entirely representative of the full 100. It's nice. It's not accurate.

Been looking into things lately. I realise it's not the most scientifically sound, but as an INXP, I'm ok with that.

It's not so much that I prefer working in the evening. It's more that it takes 10+ hours for me to wake up and run out of other things to do.

By consulting actual experts in human cognition and behaviour from the get go, instead of considering them as an afterthought or simply relying on your own assumptions and intuition.

sometimes i see folks say "fiction DOES affect reality, just look at jaws" but they never finish the thought? like should jaws not have been made? should shark movies be illegal? should spielberg be doxxed? what takeaway am i supposed to have here
