We’ll see a war between people who want more adoption vs those who want freedom and privacy. Just like we did before. Hopefully the users win again. Non-custodial private and small payments eventually have to be cheap and fast or else we lose big-time.

That’s one way to look at it. The other is that it’s a good thing that legacy institutions want to acquire a piece of this network that they can’t control. And while privacy and small payments remain huge challenges, the future is programmable.

I’d say a lot of people get off the train before option 3... Also, I think it will become clear eventually in retrospect that decentralized scarcity was the key, magical ingredient for an e-cash that could flourish parallel from the banking or dollar system.
