Much of Japanese approach to the mainland throughout history has been coloured by the copious amounts of Baekje royalty that fled to Japan. In the Kojiki you see excerpts of aristocratic scions weeping about not being able to visit their ancestors' tombs.

This issue with Tang & our relationship with ancient Korean kingdoms is something that needs to be addressed at some point. The nature of the mainland directly affect Japanese ontology (in a McLuhanian sense bcuz of the imported technologies incl. kanji, centralisation, etc.)

just passed by a vapeshop. looked like a 2000s Utada Hikaru hypebeast version of The Simpsons in there, complete with a couch with 4 people on there watching a giant TV for the outside to see

The "quacks" in the mainland knew exactly what they're doing lol. Korea's had quite a handful of anti-Sinocentric scholars bcuz the Confucian literati kept fellating the mainland empires & there's constant danger from them. So yeah they've put in more effort than others.

Korea has a much more diverse view of these polities bcuz they're not just more well-read on the subject than anyone, but they've been thinking about this subject since at least the 1200s. The very Confucian Joseon neoliterati that lasted to 1900s prob think Ming as well.

Many Japanese seem to regard the numerous polities in the mainland over history as being ALL & PERPETUALLY the Tang Empire no matter the era (for good reason, they imported TANG technologies). CCP regime is probably thought of in a similar if not slightly different fashion

yes (except this is a far more extreme case), so why give the CCP & "Han" a free pass? or rather why continue to think in these terms?

why do you assume by default that the 92% are "Han?" I could go on for a long while abt how there are 50000 different kinds of ancient peoples that got enslaved by the earliest dynasties (who were from the steppe) that no one's aware of & how they were not completely mixed

those territories are inconsequential. it's the same as creating an identity / culture just bcuz in history there were various empires comprising of "core territories" of what we now call Iraq, Persia, "Babylon", etc

sure but there is something particularly posthistorical & egregious with "Chinese identity". there is no "Han", this is basic stuff when it comes to the Chinese region. most "Han" that outsiders know are Baiyue (related to Canton & Vietnam) bcuz they're the most globally prolific

lol property & slaves of former dynasties think they ARE the dynasties, doubt that's close to knowing what their "history" & "identity" is

Rejecting Westphalia would vastly broaden their avenues to expression & independence while paying more respect to their heritage. This is why I said that the imperial house (not the government that "represents the nation") should make peace with Ainus through a pact of friendship
