I personally think having a mixture of light and dark screenshots would look ugly and is potentially confusing to users. Allowing the user to see screenshots in the appearance mode they are in (which can be changed in a few taps in control centre) seems the best solution to me!

Users probably won’t want to see both types, but a user who uses dark mode would prefer to see the dark versions and vice-versa. That’s why it would be best for developers if we can upload both sets and the App Store shows users the set that matches their appearance preference

Unfortunaly, I can see that changing some time *after* dark mode ships with iOS 13. After they’ve lulled us into a false sense that it won’t be possible. In the past they’ve been slow to add slots for new iPad sizes, for example. I hope I’m wrong and it is available on day one 🤞

On the subject of uninstalls, I don’t think they would execute code if the user just drags the app to the trash. I guess the server could detect the main app has gone and kill itself. But could it also delete itself? The new version has an uninstaller to work around this, I think

Having fun with the half-documented (and changing each beta?) context menu APIs in iOS 13. There's some very interesting behaviour regarding the preview size on different devices. Also loving how system images auto layout with respect to their optical centre.

Have you removed the ability to add events? I'm sure there used to be an 'Events' tab, but can no longer see it, or find where the feature might have moved to..

The source to my iOS applications are in /Users/geoff/work/Xcode/iOS/Applications, so they all immediately got removed from backups. Which I found out weeks later whilst trying to restore some not-yet-committed changes I accidentally deleted.🤬 Fortunately, Time Machine had it.

Crashplan recently added exclusions to prevent backup of /Applications and /Users/<username>/Applications. Unfortunately, for the latter they used regex ‘^/Users/.*/Applications/.*’ which matches all files in *any* folder called Applications anywhere is my home directory 🤦‍♂️

A locale of en_US? Doesn’t mean you see backward dates? How can you live with that?! 😂

That’s a really good observation, thanks. Using black text in dark mode for 4 is probably wrong. It should be the same color as the non-selected segment. That might change in elevated presentations or high contrast, so trying to match it could be tricky. So now it’s 1 or 3 🤔

My guess is that it will be possible to upload dark mode screenshots, but not required. App Store Connect has been pretty slow to support new device sizes, so it could take a while. It not being there in a September wouldn’t necessarily mean it isn’t coming eventually!

Hmm. Interesting. I don’t like the three colours in dark mode on number 3: white text, orange selection, black screen. So I prefer 4 over 3. But the default is slowly growing on me!

Just paid £199 to replace swollen battery on my five-year-old MacBook Pro. Ouch. But cheaper than it exploding and burning my house down, I guess. This required replacing the entire top of the laptop including keyboard. So now I have a shiny new keyboard. With scissor switches 😍

Experimenting with selected segment appearance in iOS 13: 1. Default 2. Tint selection. 3. Tint selection + always white text. 4. Tint selection + white/black text for light/dark mode. I think I need to live with it on a real device for a while, but 1 or 4 feels best for now 🤔

That looks pretty good to me! For the historical record and benefit of anyone following along, here's an example of how to use different selected text colours for light/dark mode in code. The muted style was growing on me so I'm not sure whether I'll change it!

Of course, you need to consider dark mode too, but it should be possible to use semantic colours or a custom color (either in an asset catalog or in code) to get automatic switching.

In an earlier reply I shared how the text colour could be changed. I just tried again and it's possible to set the selected and normal text attributes to achieve this:
