I love how IMF reports regularly refer to regional benchmarks as if we can expect all economies in South Asia/ Latin America/ North Africa to be the same. “Wages are too high relative to regional benchmark”- so? why should we expect wages in Ecuadorian similar to those in Peru?

My uncle who was then an undergraduate at Ibadan had come home with a photocopy of the book. Why struggling to pronounce 'underdeveloped' while rummaging through his books...he asked me if I understood what it meant since I could barely pronounce it. I am still figuring it out!

Exactly, this has been obvious to me ever since my 18 yr old self read Rodney's magisterial How Europe Underdeveloped Africa and learnt in there that Barclays' set-up capital came from the financing of slavery & the slave trade.
